Why I Run (continued)

...sharing the kinetic energy that emanates from the group just before a start. Simply stated, they are lively and forward-looking hard-workers, who choose to play even harder.
From what I have been able to observe, distance runners appear to be driven by unique and personal reasons - whether originally to become an elite runner - to qualify for a prestigious event - to raise money for some charity - to lose weight - or to simply feel better about themselves.
I run - despite the pounding and aches - because of what it does for my Spirit, mind, and body.
I don’t like the uncomfortableness I experience when I haven’t run in a couple of days - when I know I need to re-charge. Indeed, I’ve come enjoy taking whatever physically meditative time I need to clear my head of worries or upsets that serve no purpose except to interfere with spontaneous and creative solutions. The simple unspoken mantra “left-right-left-right” overrides the clutter. And, regardless of how my form or speed may objectively appear to others, I experience myself - as I did in the playgrounds of my youth - as running fast - really fast - effortlessly - gracefully - gleefully. The gazelle outrunning the lions - and grinning about it.
There is also the training for long runs. The discipline to get there. The perseverance - goal setting - and “personal bests” that go with it. I like observing myself - when the training gets tough - when I feel lazy - when I don’t want to do it - nonetheless lacing up my shoes and getting out the door.
I especially like what I learn about myself - and carry with me - through strenuous effort - whether from running - from long distance bicycle treks - or more recently from climbing "fourteeners" in Colorado. However daunting and tough a challenge may at first appear to be - it is comforting to know that I’ve “been there - done that.” I’ve come to appreciate that longer races - more difficult trails - higher mountains - and more complex litigation - are but variations on a theme - merely current iterations of challenges I’ve handled before - mastered - and thrived on. Another opportunity to add to a substantial base of self-confidence acquired and reinforced through successes - and grounded in the solid foundation forged with knowledge, experience, training, dedication and perseverance.
From my 30 years of practicing law, I’ve been blessed with and relish the synergy and energy that come from working with intelligent, daring and motivated people - people who are powerful, empowering, purposeful, patient, alive, vital, and looking to live fully through their last breath. That is what energizes us here at Dennis Law, P.C..
